The Burbank Arts Education Foundation
Supporting “Arts for All” in Burbank Schools
The Burbank Arts Education Foundation is the only organization dedicated to ensuring permanent and equal access to a quality arts education for Burbank’s 15,000 students. The Foundation was founded in 2006 and our goal is to create a $10 million permanent endowment fund which will support arts education in the Burbank Unified School District in four areas: (1) music, (2) visual arts, (3) dance, and (4) drama. The principal will be invested permanently and the income will provide an annual source of funding for the arts.
The Foundation raises and allocates support funds for:
- Arts education programs
- Art supplies & equipment
- Arts education teacher training
- Matching funds for VAPA compliant programs
Why is an arts education for all important?
Studies show that arts-involved students watch fewer hours of TV, participate in more community service, and report less boredom in school. According to Americans for the Arts, young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours, three days each week for at least a year are:- 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement
- 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools
- 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair
- 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance
- 4 times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem
